Il Hoon Son was born in Seoul, South Korea. After he studied composition at the Korea National University of Arts, he came to the Netherlands and studied master degree in music with Cornelis de Bondt and Peter Adriaansz in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. As a composer in residence, his works have been performed by ensemble Club M in Seoul Arts Center, South Korea and he worked together with many other ensembles such as Amsterdam piano quartet, Neo-fanfare 9×13 and Rotterdam Alexander Kamerkoor with soloists and a Baroque ensemble of the Royal Conservatory. His works have been performed on the stage of Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht, Dag in de Branding in Den Haag, International Organ Festival in Haarlem and Het Orgelpark in Amsterdam, etc. Son is music director of an ensemble which was established by himself and he works as an improvisation performer on stages such as Seoul Freemusic Festival and Amsterdam Oorsprong Curator Series. Currently, he is in the Artist Diploma program at the conservatory.
