Felipe Ignacio Noriega was born in Mexico City (1982). He lives nowadays in Amsterdam where he works as a composer and/or performer within different projects. A common thread in his work is the importance of movement, theatricality and visual imagination. In recent works, he is exploring consumer-technologies as dramaturgical artifacts and in service of his instrument: the laptop. He is co-founder of Amsterdam Chamber Opera and ColectivoJuana, two groups working in the area between music, opera and theater, looking for new forms of interdisciplinary collaboration and communication. Noriega works with theater makers, dramaturgs, choreographers, dancers, performers, musicians as well as other composers. He is a specialist in the development of consumer/garage electronics for specific needs in diverse artistic projects.
In 2013 Noriega graduated Cum Laude from the Masters at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2012 he was awarded with the Publieksprijs from the 2scoremusictheater competition in Enschede for his first opera LAKE, and in November 2010 won the 1st prize of the composition competition Tromp Percussion Festival in Eindhoven, with his percussion quartet InRed: two views.
